Currently they are only visible in battles, they should be visible out of combat too instead of the default name.
Like on this screenshot, pet got name 'Crackatowa' and appears instead of 'Pandaren Monk' name http://i42.tinypic.com/2iw9gm0.png

Bug is now fixed, it will be applied at the next update :)
